The backstory
Stella Rosa belongs to the Riboli family, who run San Antonio Winery, a Los Angeles institution since 1917. They source this one from Asti in northern Italy, which happens to be where family matriarch Maddalena Riboli was born. Moscato d'Asti is an official Italian style with strict rules: the juice ferments in sealed tanks and gets stopped early, so you end up with low alcohol, lots of natural grape sugar and a soft fizz the Italians call frizzante.
How it compares
- Stella Rosa Moscato vs Barefoot Moscato
Barefoot is still, a bit heavier and cheaper; pick Stella Rosa for the fizz and the fresher taste.
- Stella Rosa Moscato vs Stella Rosa Black
Stella Rosa Black is the red version, sweet and fizzy with berry flavors; pick the Moscato if you'd rather have peach and orange blossom.
- Stella Rosa Moscato vs La Marca
Prosecco has more bubbles and much less sugar; pick Stella Rosa for dessert or brunch, Prosecco for toasting.
