Apple, lemon and a little toasted bread, with fine bubbles, ending dry and crisp. It has that rich, toasty Champagne character you don't get from Prosecco.

Is it worth $22?
Absolutely. Real Champagne usually starts at around $40, so at about $22 this is a steal. Stock up before the holidays, because it tends to sell out.
Who it’s for
Anyone with a Costco membership and something to celebrate. If you want sweet or fruity bubbles, Prosecco will feel more familiar.
How to serve it
Well chilled but not icy. A regular wine glass shows it off better than a narrow flute.
The backstory
Costco doesn't make its own Champagne. It buys from a Champagne house and puts the Kirkland label on it, and for years that producer has reportedly been Manuel Janisson, based in Verzenay, a top-rated Pinot Noir village. It's made from the same three grapes and the same in-the-bottle bubble method as the famous brands. That's why it tastes toasty and fine rather than fruity like Prosecco, at roughly a third of big-name prices.
How it compares
- Kirkland Champagne vs Veuve Clicquot
Veuve is richer and fuller with a famous label; Kirkland is lighter and crisper but close enough that most people happily pocket the savings.
- Kirkland Champagne vs Chandon
Chandon is California bubbly at about the same price; Kirkland is real Champagne, so if you have a Costco card it's the better buy.
- Kirkland Champagne vs Freixenet
Freixenet is half the price and great for mimosas; Kirkland is the one to sip on its own.
