What's the best wine at Costco?
Kirkland Signature Brut Champagne is the best wine at Costco (real Champagne for about $22), and the Kirkland Signature Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand is the best everyday white for under $10.
Costco is quietly one of the biggest wine sellers in the country, and its Kirkland Signature house wines are mostly made by established producers under Costco's label. Not every Kirkland bottle is a winner, but the best ones are some of the best value anywhere. Mix those with a few well-known names Costco tends to carry and you have a very good cart.
Reds
1. Kirkland Signature Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
about $20Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Cabernet usually starts north of $40. This one is rich, dark-fruited and a solid steak-night bottle. Quality can shift a bit year to year, so it is worth a test bottle before you buy six.
2. Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
about $14Cabernet SauvignonGood buy
The crowd-pleaser Cabernet. Smooth, a little vanilla, nothing scary. Costco often has it for a few dollars under grocery price.
3. Meiomi Pinot Noir

Whites
4. Kirkland Signature Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

5. Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay

Creamy, a little buttery, very reliable. If you like your Chardonnay rich, this is the classic.
Pink and bubbles

Real Champagne from France, crisp and toasty, for roughly half what the famous names cost. The best-known bargain in the whole wine section.
7. Kirkland Signature Prosecco

8. Kirkland Signature Côtes de Provence Rosé
about $9Grenache blend
Pale, dry Provence-style rosé, the same style as the pricey ones on Instagram. A great value when it is on the shelf.
Good to know
- Selection depends on your state and warehouse
- Liquor laws vary, so some Costcos sell a full wine aisle, some sell a short list, and a few sell none. Check your local warehouse before you plan a party around one bottle.
- Kirkland bottles change
- The source behind a Kirkland wine can change from year to year, and so can the taste. If you love one, it is worth buying a few while that batch is around.
- Read the region on the label
- Kirkland labels usually name a specific place (Napa Valley, Marlborough, Côtes de Provence). A specific region is generally a better sign than just "California".
- Chill bubbles and rosé before the party
- Three hours in the fridge or 20 minutes in an ice bucket with water. Warm Prosecco foams everywhere and tastes flat.
